You'd think that a time travel adventure story about exploring the ice age would be endlessly exciting whether you're being hunted by now-extinct wild animals or by spear-hurling caveman or in one instance running from an avalanche. Except that it's often just that—you escaping from danger. There's not much interaction otherwise. This leaves the story feeling as barren as the surrounding wasteland. You do make frequent jumps to the modern era, which serves to alleviate this lack-of-humans problem, but it's not enough.
