The Oedipus Murders by Casey Dorman is about a man who seeks help with a local psychiatrist after his wife goes missing. When his wife is found murdered, both men become suspects.

This book was a disappointment for me. The first couple of chapters were interesting and kept my attention as did the last couple of chapters. The rest of the novel was flat out boring. I wish the author had concentrated more on the actual mystery and less time on the psycho-babble. The ending seemed rush, and a bit unbelievable. I hated the relationship between Dr. Farquhar and his wife. The constant bickering and disrespect for each other got on my nerves.

I did like the character, Ben Murphy, who was a retired police chief turned PI. I liked his casual style and intelligence.

I’m giving this book 3 stars instead of 2 because of the parts of the book I actually liked. It was a great concept, but for me, the author wasn’t able to make it convincing.

Thanks to Library Thing, Casey Dorman, and Black Rose Writing for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from LibraryThing in return for an honest review.

Dr. George Farquhar is a psychoanalyst who just got a new patient, Lucas Bonaventure. Lucas is the prime suspect in his wife, Regina's, disappearance. But Lucas isn't here to discuss his wife, rather he wants to figure out how to help his "promiscuous" secretary before something bad happens to her. Taking on this new patient drags Dr. Farquhar into the middle of police investigation on Regina's disappearance and introduces him to their psychology specialist, Dr. Susan Lin. As Lucas's and Farquhar's sessions go on the line between the two men blur leaving the reader to wonder how actually killed Regina.

This book sucks the reader in. It made me question who the killer was right up to the very end. I did find it slow in parts but overall I really enjoyed this book.

Back and forth, back and forth! Who did it? Or was it the other guy? Every time I thought I had it figured out, a new detail comes up to confuse and enthrall me more! You'll have a hard time putting it down because you know the next chapter is going to reveal something really important. I really enjoyed it!

I was provided this book by the publisher for review.

The Oedipus Murders is a thriller involving a psychoanalyst who starts treating a new patient whose wife has gone missing, a psychologist assisting police, a private detective hired by the missing wife's father and, obviously the police.

The writing is good but I felt the pace lacked in some parts, whilst it does do a fair job of blurring the lines of who is responsible, dropping some hints here and there which lead down different paths ultimately you do know who it is early on. The story does build an interesting picture of how the killer's machinations are unraveled in a procedural type manner slowly chipping away at the false leads and laying a trail that results in a showdown between all the parties at the end.

Overall it was an entertaining read.
