Marc Douglas

A short book on Marc Douglas' life after a stroke. All stroke victims are different as is their care but unfortunately it seemed Marc's experience has been hindered with lack of answers or being fobbed off with oh a lot of stroke survivors have this with no advice on how to combat certain things. What I did not know was that a little jolt in the neck can cause a stroke as can visiting a chiropractor where they neck crack you. I will definitely be avoiding that in the future.
This was an interesting read for me due to having family members who have had strokes and the links given in this book are very useful.

The first thing that drew me to this book was the cover, I absolutely loved the design. Sci-Fi books are rapidly becoming a favourite genre of mine and Slingshot did not disappoint me. I have always wondered what might happen if something happened to Earth, would we be taken to another planet? I let my mind open up to this thought while reading Slingshot but I had never thought dogs would be taken too. The atmospheric change makes the dogs highly intelligent although I think they are far more intelligent that people think anyway.
The plot of this is fantastic, and the twists and turns kept me thoroughly hooked.
A brilliant book that seems to leave the door open for a sequel.

When I started reading Blind Sight I found myself getting a little confused as each timeline featured different characters and I didn't see how they related together and I got rather lost and wondering whether I would enjoy the book due to this. However, a little way into the book all the characters that were mentioned in the different timelines merged together and it all started making sense and I felt I got to know the characters more through this.
Who would have thought walking into a Biker Bar would cause so much trouble and danger for Dozer and Sadie, they go from taking a vacation to fighting for survival from some crazy novice biker gang who didn't even have bikes but the main danger seemed to be from Joey who was a little deranged to say the least. I loved the way Dozer idolized his wife Sadie and the love they had together was really heart warming. They would do anything to save each other. We also met other characters from the main biker gang of the town and in particular Otis and his daughter Grace. Otis was very into drink and drugs and ladies of the night and it seemed to get worse when his partner Sarah as killed,the never told Grace she was murdered and the guilt and truth was eating him up, and when an accident happened where The whole side of Grace's was burnt the only way he could deal with it was through the drunk and drugs. the whole book was complete suspense and at some points thriller, people you thought were dead come back to life and there is a lot of death, rising from the dead. It was thoroughly gripping and by the end I didn't want it to finish.

There was a name that was written differently during 2 pages of the book and some of the dialogue confused me (with the way people spoke) at first but all in all it was a great read.… (meer)

At first I thought it was going to be dull due to higher evolved Labradors. Much to my surprise it got increasingly better and better. I absolutely loved the idea of marooned star cruiser citizens building their own cities, for good and bad. The pack of dogs inspired lots of sympathy, even though at first thought you wouldn't think so. My main problem with the story, or at least my copy, was that words were doubled and sentences had to be re-read to understand what just happened. I very much am looking forward to the next two novels in the series.… (meer)
