These ramblings of a doctor practicing in rural Montana would never be mistaken for great prose but are an eye-opener about healthcare in the mid-1900's. While extremely satisfied with the rural lifestyle, his distance from Institutions of Higher Learning did make consultations and ongoing training catch-as-catch-can. The local residents converted a house to a hospital and furnished it with second hand equipment, for the most part, which demonstrates the mutual support attitude of the area. They also had difficulties paying their bills yet Losee continued to dedicate long hours and seemingly 24-hr availability for their health needs.
