First, let me start off by saying I am NOT a quilter and am barely a beginner sewer. I'm obsessed with quilts, love looking at them & dreaming of making them, but I haven't made the plunge - yet. I was hoping that this book would help push me into quilt making; unfortunately, it's just not written for a beginner. That's fine; there should be books out there for every level of skill for every craft, and that's a good thing!

I didn't feel the quilts were terribly modern; most of them were things I'd seen before on pinterest, the net, etc. - yes different colors/fabrics but the same basic design.

The cover isn't appealing (another reason for the 3 stars). I didn't particularly find the photos amazing, either; I expect photos in a craft book to motivate me into making the projects, and these photos didn't do that for me.

All in all, I just was disappointed with the book.

Great creative ideas. Also had better color theory than a lot of books on quilting color theory.

The ten chapters in this attractive book are presented by ten different quilt artists with each chapter providing a workshop in a variety of quilting skills. From “Principles of Colour” to ‘Working with Prints” to “Circles and Curves” and beyond, each chapter is well presented and informative. The text is straightforward and concise and the photographs and illustrations are attractive and inspiring.

It is not a book for the novice quilter. A certain skill level is assumed in the instructions and explanations, but for someone new to quilting, it still provides interesting reading. The book is full of inspiring pictures of beautiful modern quilts which made this novice reader aspire to bigger and better things.… (meer)

Online fans of the modern quilting movement who yearn for a course taught by leading quilters such as Jacquie Gering or Denyse Schmidt will find this book's structure and "guest lecturers" compelling. By gathering lessons taught by some of the world's leading contemporary modern quilters (such as the two mentioned above), this is a novel addition to the how-to quilting book genre. Highly recommended. Digital galley received from publisher via NetGalley.com. (67)
