Edmond has created a strong story. Friendship and selfishness are not new themes, but this is mostly well done. The writing is uneven; sometimes it is perfectly paced; sometimes there is too much text or too much unnecessary or misplaced detail. The book is perfectly sized for a picture book with a lot to read. The story deserves stronger, better placed illustrations. For example, the text about the "SOLD" sign is on the page after the illustration. Even with the shortfalls, I would recommend this story.

Pros: Parents looking for a story about friendship, overcoming selfishness, and helping others will find a nice story in Patric the Pony.
