This book presents on a denomination-wide scale the story of Blacks in the UMC and its predecessor iterations -- the Methodist Episcopal Church, established in 1784, the MEC, South (1844), the Methodist Church (1939) -- what played-out in the history of the Bethel Churches in Charleston from 1797.

Also, in Bethel's church library is David Myers's "Blacks in the History of the Betel Churches of Charleston, S.C." presenting an intermate narrative of actual experience of Blacks in a local church setting.
