Ralph M. Evans

This is a classic text, thoughtful beyond the technical expertise of Evans, who was Director of the Color Technology Division of Eastman Kodak Company. He beings with a discussion of the nature of color photography, which in 1959 was technically difficult, that considers its usefulness as a medium and a creative practice. He works his way through how we see, and then how the camera sees. Understanding what these two processes have in common and how they differ is fundamental to intelligent photography and considered by too few who are making photographs. He ends with a section titled "photography as a creative medium." Such thinking was not wide spread in the 1950s and it makes this old book still relevant.… (meer)
