In 1976, the martial arts world was beginning to take Bruce Lee serious when he said, 'Liberate yourself from classical karate.' Bruce Lee alienated himself from many of the traditionalists when he declared what he saw in the traditional kung fu schools a 'classical mess'. This author was fortunate enought to train with Bruce Lee. Because of the author's background in Western boxing, he could understand and appreciate what Bruce Lee was saying. Following Bruce Lee's death in 1973, this author began to let the wisdom and concepts of Bruce Lee crystallize, and WKD was born.
