This book argues that a substantial amount of what Christians call the Old Testament was drawn from Plato.

Setting the scene, Gmirkin argues in his prior book Berossus and Genesis, Manetho and Exodus, that the OT was collected together and reworked very late, specifically 273 BC in Alexandria.

In this book he discusses what exactly they might have been doing in Alexandria, using the library resources to build a founding mythology for the Jewish state and it's laws according to the recipes set out in Plato.

The core notion, that the Torah might depend on Plato rather than the other way round is no longer outrageously heretical in academic circles but Gmirkin makes it very explicit and presents a very definite formative hypothesis.

The book is detailed and substantial with verse by verse analysis of key parts.

The books is very expensive, so is an acquisition of marginal overall utility to most readers. Many people would consider this part of a radical fringe of OT minimalism, but I found it quite reasonable and the arguments not at all outlandish.
