What a great book. Perhaps a bit too much, but if you want to know everything about placekicking in the NFL - this is it. Some great stories - even from the drop kick era. Just chockfull of history anecdotes.

This book is the culmination of author Rick Gonsalves' lifetime of kicking research. Quite simply, if it happened in the NFL, and it relates to placekicking, Rick has mentioned it in this book. I found that it contained a ton of good information that most people, even die-hard football fans, probably wouldn't know. That being said, the writing itself can be difficult to wade through. There are typos, issues with verb tense, and repetitive information throughout. However, I found this book to be incredibly interesting and was more than happy to overlook the actual writing to have access to such a wealth of unique information. Ideal for serious football fans and/or stat junkies.… (meer)

While I'm not much of a football fan, I did enjoy the history behind placekicking. The information shared in this book is amazing. The examples/stories in the book are great (especially when wanting to impress someone with useless knowledge). I re-gifted this book to my brother as he is a big football fan and he wasn't a fan (as it was missing pictures) but he enjoyed the stories and flipped through them to read them. Overall a good book if for nothing else the history.

This book reads like an encyclopedia of place-kicking knowledge - which is both its strength and weakness. For information, history and anecdotes I don't see how you could do better than to read this book, and if you are at all interested in football you will want to keep it handy. However, the writing is disjointed and in places confusing, with duplication of info from chapter to chapter (like the repeated review of rule changes made in 1974, which are recorded on both page 29-30 and 35) and story is piled atop story and sometimes you are not quite sure exactly who is being talked about or why. There are also several typos ("Knute Rockne and Notre Dance", for instance) though I never let typos ruin a good read. All in all, well worth the time and money.… (meer)
