Korte biografie
Alice Walworth Graham was born in Natchez, Mississippi. Her grandfather served in the Confederate army and later became editor of The Natchez Democrat. Alice graduated from Natchez High School and St. Joseph’s Convent before enrolling in Mississippi State College for Women. There she wrote for the school newspaper, The Spectator. She later attended a writing class given by Robert Penn Warren at Louisiana State University. In 1936, she married Richard Graham, a civil engineer, with whom she had one child.
Her first published book was Lost River (1938), an historical romance set on a Natchez plantation, which was the formula for her subsequent novels The Natchez Woman (1950), Romantic Lady (1952), Indigo Bend (1954) and Cibola (1962). She also wrote three historical novels set in England: Vows of the Peacock (1955), Shield of Honor (1957), and The Summer Queen (1973).
Alice Graham belonged to the Natchez Historical Society, the Authors’ League of America, the English-Speaking Society, and the National League of American Pen Women.
