I finished reading Benjamin Franklin's library (printed, 1936, as "The first American library") a short account of the Library company of Philadelphia, 1731-1931. It is interesting and enjoyable up through about 1865 but then it bogs down after that in internal politics, wills, lawyers, etc. It's almost like the author ran out of time writing it to meet a deadline as the last few chapters just don't match the first ones in style and historical interaction. . oh well.
