Surprising to me that more people don't take an interest in empirical work in the social science that can have practical bearing on the things that matter most to us: sex, friendship, money, love, and so on. This is a very good analysis of interviews with hundreds of men on the topic of their friendships. Particularly like that it dwells on a peculiar fact about modern Western male-male friendship, viz. that it's haunted by the prospect of stigmatized male-male sexual affection, and so vexed in a way that male-female and female-female friendships aren't.… (meer)
