This book was entertaining from the beginning to the end. I loved the author’s style of writing. It was engaging, light, and humorous. The story didn’t get verbose or complicated. Willow was just a narcoleptic vampire, who worked at a Fetish club, except on Sundays because…she was religious. She wasn’t on a mission to save the world, she just wanted to survive and live in peace. The humor was very tongue- in-cheek.

The story begins with Willow performing a death by suicide scene for an audience at Club Hades. This Fetish Club is exclusive, by membership only and the membership list is top secret. These people come to enjoy all kinds of weird sexual fetishes performed by various entertainers. Willow is one of the clubs feature acts. The audience loves the show because when she stabs herself and “dies”, it looks so real. The only thing was the audience didn’t know that Willow’s “act” was real, but since she is a vampire, she revives after every enactment. But she is a crowd pleaser.

Willow came to work at Hades for two reasons: Money and to Hide in plain sight. Like everyone else, Willow needed a paying job for her bills. But Vampirism was a crime and vampires were being hunted by the Vampire Extermination Team (VET). So by working at Hades, she can “pretend” to die and get paid for entertaining the patrons. She can also have an endless supply of anonymous patrons to get blood from, should she desire. She can also hang around other people doing bizarre things so her behavior won’t seem peculiar.

Willow has been a vampire for a little over 3 years. A choice she made because she thought it would cure her of narcolepsy. Willow’s aunt died in a car accident due to her narcolepsy and Willow vowed to find a cure before she had an unfortunate accident as well. Well, it didn’t cure her. Now that she is a Vampire with narcolepsy. She has to worry that she may fall asleep at any moment and be discovered by the VET agents or anyone else.

Willow has admirer/fan at the club named Remi, and he comes once a week to enjoy her show. They become friends and Willow feeds on him to replenish her blood. Remi was the most interesting character in this book. He had so many faces that he was a freak show of his own. Willow and Remi both are dealing with psychological and physical trauma from their past. That is probably why they connected. It was certainly the reason they didn’t judge each other.

One day, someone tries to kidnap Willow and we realize that the VET agents are suspicious that her “act” may not be act after all. Remi insists on helping her because he cares about her. We are lead on adventure as Willow & Remi tries to find out who tried to abduct her and why. They also have to figure out how to get the VET off her trail. Lastly, Willow has to deal with her maistre, who she is bonded to. He wants her to leave Remi, come back and be a true bride to him.

This book is a different from the typical paranormal romance novels. The heroine was very strong, but she wasn’t invincible. I also loved getting to know Remi. He definite had issues. It was a well written book and I look forward to reading the sequel. If you are looking for a unique take on vampires, then this is the book for you.
