Book's purpose In instructing the science of self-defense to various groups of Marines, it was discovered that there was a pressing need for some sort of basic reference guide for students to use as a 'memory refersher' between classes. This is book is the answer. Since it was first printed as a pocket reference guide for Marine students of Jiu Jitsu Defense there have been innumerable requests for a third edition available to the general public. And because today as never before the knowledge of self-defense in physical combat is a necessary part of every man's makeup, these requests have been granted. With more and more men being called into Uncle Sam's Armed Forces daily, the burden of protectiing the home folks is doubly great for those of us left behind. For this reason, every able man owes it to America's loved ones to equip himself with the ability to give protection when the unforeseen emergency arrives. Careful study of the methods described on the pages to follow will provide YOU with that ability. Remember one thing-this book was not written to teach you a group of 'tricks' to amuse your friends. Because only serious injury, or even death, can result from the forceful application of many of the holds it illustrates and teaches. In other words, this book was created only to help men when they're 'fighting for keeps.'
