In these three classic fairy tales music or song is an important part of the story -- The Bremen Town Musicians, The Pied Piper of Hamelin, and The Nightingale.

This author kept the oral transition of Snow White. The story is exactly the same as I've heard it before, but looks different. I remember the wicked lady queen being a lot scarier, and I thought she was a witch. The characters of this book seem to have casual expressions and no dark scenes or a scary witch. Snow White definitely looks different. I remember her having a short bob hairstyle and a red bow. The authors has Snow White with extremely long black wavy hair. Although the story and theme remains the same, the author switches it up by changing the looks of the characters.

Summary: this book is a retelling of 3 famous folktales told long ago: goldilocks, billy goats gruff, and three little pigs. The stories are just as I remember them except for the three little pigs where the pig in a house of bricks continues to trick the wolf long after he has tried to blow the house down.
Review: This book is a folktale because the original authors of these three stories have been lost to time. This book itself does not better nor worse job a telling them than books in the past with similar tales have.
Possible media: paint or color pencil

A little long/ wordy. A little predictable (though to think of it, some kids do like the triumphant feeling of being able to say I knew it was going to turn out like that!). I did not care for the illustrations at all. Not a bad book, but I cannot rate it higher, honestly, because I did not enjoy it."

A subtle fable that will resonate deeply with some readers. Fog Cat will always be wild, but she wants a kitten, and she wants it to have a more secure life than she does, so she temporarily adopts Hannah and her Grandpa.

I find it interesting that there's absolutely no mention of mom, dad, or grandma. The author just takes for granted that families come in all sorts of shapes & sizes, it seems, and I appreciate that.

Most of the illustrations were lovely, including those of Grandpa. But imo the artist never got Hannah quite right.

The issue of the stillborn kittens, and the fact that this is a fairly long book, cause me to recommend it for ages 5 up, not for the littlest rugrats.

Silly riddles that will have new readers giggling. Most are a bit gross.
