Versed in the more trying aspects of the artistic mindset, the author tackles strained family dynamics and hidden past events with an enthusiastic and biting voice. The characters are fine examples for the genre, each containing playful nods to accepted archetypes, while injecting a bold freshness all of their own. Most importantly for a mystery, the novella draws the interest and creates a successful sense of intrigue, especially surrounding the covert identity of the balaclava wearing Maelstrom.
