Gone At Zero Hundred is a well-written, fast-pace mystery that involves a crime we should all be more aware of.

Eighteen-year-old Sydney McSwain witnesses her mother, a private investigator, being gunned down on a live news broadcast. Following this tragedy, Syd and her childhood friend, Cody Beck, decide to run her mother’s P.I. business. When McSwain & Beck’s first client walks through the door, little do they know what appears to be a straightforward surveillance case will lead them to a nefarious secret organization called The Privileged Ones.

Syd reminded me of Veronica Mars, but without the boy-obsession. It’s clear from page one that Syd is her own person and marches to the beat of her own drum. I really appreciated that about her, as I appreciated her courage, common decency, and compassion. Hiatt might explore headlining crimes, but she uses her main characters to portray traits that if we all possessed, or strived to possess, there wouldn’t be heinous acts for newscasters to report. Even cocky Cody is noble, and there are glimpses of the admirable man he is becoming.

Though I enjoyed Syd’s first person narrative, the parts I found especially compelling and chilling were the third person narratives where The Privileged Ones hunted. Clearly, Hiatt did due diligence in acquiring information about criminal profiles. How victims were targeted certainly rang true and hopefully will help young readers be more wise. I always loved mystery and action books but I can't believe how intense this book was! Syd and Cody were the perfect match together! It totally reminded me of Bones and Booth. They were both real, sexy, and funny. I think Syd got some Catwoman gene in her! WOOT! She was reckless, and dangerous. The characters got major awesome sass! I totally wish I can be more like that! The romance between Syd and Cody was low in this book, but you know that there is something there, and it would grow.

The plot was a thrill ride for sure! It felt like I was watching some DC Comics cartoon but less predictable. There were many layers to this book. I totally felt I was attach in every single possible way with the characters and the plot. A lot of the time I felt like I had to hold my breath because I was so afraid. One more plus about this book was that the chapters are short! YAY! The story was definitely fast paced. I really don't enjoy books that dwindle on emotions and thinking a lot, especially over something so stupid. This book was definitely not boring.

Sorry for not having not a lot to say. I just can't describe how awesome it is. And I really don't want to give away much! I definitely would recommend this to more of the male readers because the romance is low and action is high in this book.… (meer)

I read this book as part of a blog tour hosted by Reading Addiction Blog Tours for C.R. Hiatt. I first agreed to do it because I love a good mystery and adventure. This book did deliver such a story. This book kept the pace and was a quick read. The chapters are quick and not too long, making the story fly by. The mystery and plot was developed very well. A lot is going on, but the author does tie it up nicely at the end. However, she doesn’t finish everything in the end as there is a follow up book.
Sydney and Cody are the main characters. They are great friends and work well together. Their personal interests combine very well throughout the story. Another character I did enjoy was Detective Carter. He was the comfort of the law enforcement side to the entire story. I enjoyed his character so much I hope we see him in the next book.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a great story. Plenty of action and suspense on every page. And a reminder...not everything is wrapped up because there is a second book to be published soon.… (meer)
