Draper Hill

A comparatively rare collection of the work of Leslie Illingworth, one of the best of the mid-20th century editorial cartoonists (principally for Punch and the Daily Mail). There's only a small selection, here, which was for an exhibition; however, the selections are choice, and terrific to look at. The notes and introduction are both excellent. Recommended for cartoon lovers especially.

Excellent, well-written and thoroughly-researched biography of Gillray, a compromised & a commercial artist who was nevertheless a genius, and a fascinatingly complex figure. With many b&w illustrations.
