- Margot Hilton was born in London, England, and graduated from the University of Leeds with a bachelor's degree in English Honours (1971) and a master's degree in Drama & Theatre Arts (1972). She visited Australia for the first time in 1974, and became an Australian citizen in 1983. She has written film, radio, and television scripts, speeches, songs and articles, in addition to several books.
She was married for 18 years to Graeme Blundell, with whom she had two children. With Blundell, she co-authored an unauthorised autobiography of artist Brett Whiteley, published in 1996. She has written on issues affecting authors, including The Acquisition of Film Rights in Literary Properties (1984). She has worked as the inaugural drama officer for the Victorian Ministry for the Arts; executive officer for the Australian Society of Authors; inaugural executive secretary for the Victorian Premier's Literature Awards; publicity manager for Angus & Robertson; and project officer, Literature Board Australia Council.
She served as a producer for TV Channel Ten's "Til Ten with Joan McInnes."
