Oeke Hoogendijk

Housewitz follows filmmaker Oeke Hoogendijk's mother, Lous, who hasn't left the house for decades. She is plagued by a recurring nightmare that she is lost and cannot find her way home. The root of her trauma stems from the Holocaust when, as a young Jewish girl, she was deported to Westerbork concentration camp. In her isolation at home, Lous spends her days and nights with her cat. Her only escape from the walls of her home is the calming effect of house music and endless hours of travel television that allow her to discover a world that she is too fearful to visit. As her daughter connects with her through phone and web camera conversations, we get to know Lous, who, despite her sadness, emerges as a strong, astute woman with a sharp sense of humor.
