This book were I got it but I wanted to read something quick (because Harry Potter 6 comes out in 5 days) anyway this book was kinda fun to read as it is the memories of Jim Jeffery who lived in Salinas 1903-? He became the Justice of the Peace in sleepy Salinas for $280 a month. He didn’t think much of that cause the head janitor made $300. The book is a bit confusing as it’s difficult to see if Jim is “speaking” or his son Bill. Lots are left out, like who is who and what ended up happening to people. In the last chapter he meets Irene and marries her, but then you find out Jim has an ex-wife and two children. When did that happen? He mentions that everything was going wrong in his life so we decides to go to Alaska for two year to work. You never find out what went wrong, or how old he is at this time. Really a family tree and some years mentioned more often would have helped the flow of the story. Leave it to a man not to think of these things. This book I think is written more for his family. I’m not sure it was intended to be published. The pictures are really dark, but otherwise a nice quick read.
