This is not, in fact an introduction to Middle English in the sense the word is ordinarily meant. It won't teach you to read Middle English if you don't already know how, nor will it introduce you to Middle English literature, nor describe the history of the English language during the Middle English period.

Rather, Jones attempts to apply transformational grammars to Middle English -- perhaps an admirable exercise, but something few readers not already well-versed in both transformational linguistics and Middle English grammar will find useful.
