If you're a fan of Fantasy, sorcerers, and mythical creatures, then I recommend The King's Tournament.

A set of eight challengers are set to compete in a grand tournament in the hopes to quell an uprising in the kingdom of Windcastle, Eldonia. King Phillip, having lost his wife and daughter ten years prior in tragic circumstances, is allowing anyone to enter their name, even non-humans. What the King doesn't know is that this tournament is a ploy for something far more sinister.

Let me begin by saying that this is one of the best Fantasies I've read in the past twelve months. Loss, dishonor, and conspiracy form three sides to this intriguing tale. From the start I found myself drawn to the characters, my body poised at the edge of my seat as I waited for their success or failure to pass.

Allies and foes are not the same black and white terms that we know from our childhood. Here, they have become interchangeable terms. This third person narration follows each of the eight contenders, showing how they have come to apply for this spectacular event. In addition, we are told the tale of Shivo, an immortal elf who helps to run the show, so to speak.

My favourite characters were Khora and Misha, two feisty females that form an unbreakable bond when they meet in the tournament. With Khora's blunt style of speaking and lack of modesty, and Misha's sense of strength and risk taking, the pair make for an unstoppable duo.

This was a fantastic read that I rated 5/5 stars. Would recommend to all lovers of Fantasy, no matter the sub-genre.… (meer)
