Over de Auteur

Fotografie: MINERVA DAY (a Novel) When Minerva Day’s grandson turns up missing at a Christmas carnival, her daughter accuses Minerva of his murder. Could she have done such a thing? Had she forgotten to take her medicine? The unnerving thought haunts Minerva, just like it did four years earlier when her husband died of a mysterious illness. Then Walter, a new love, brings balance into Minerva’s life. But it is short-lived—her daughter won’t let go of the nagging suspicions that her mother is guilty of the most horrendous of crimes.

"Minerva Day" is a fantastic, well-paced book. It is a story of a middle-aged woman's uneasy relationship with her daughter, Piper, and the tragic events surrounding the disappearance of the daughter's adopted son. Piper also suspects Minerva of murdering Piper's father (Minerva's late husband), and, indeed, the circumstances of his death are questionable. When Piper's son disappears, it is only natural she would suspect Minerva of wrong-doing in that, too. Given Minerva's precarious mental health, the reader has his or her own doubts about Minerva's innocence...

This book is filled with poignant, often humorous moments involving Minerva and her interactions with the world. In a book that can be dark and emotionally draining at times, the lighter touches of humor become a welcome respite. Though Minerva often seems cold toward Piper and everyone else she interacts with, the author skillfully develops the character in such a way that we sympathize with her, or at least feel sorry for her, because of the times when we see the world from her unique, and often funny, perspective.

This is a quick, entertaining read, filled with emotional highs and lows, and I'd happily read it again. I highly

An engrossing look into a deeply troubled family. The plot held me fast from beginning to eye opening end. From the blurb I expected it to focus on the murder of a young child, and while that does figure prominently the focus is actually on Minerva herself and her complex family relations. Very highly recommended book!
