Doxie Keller (1932–2019)

Too many of the projects use a kind of pre-manufactured braid, which seems to be what the author means by "straw". I'm not at all sure it is still even available. Also, some of them are "quick" because the instructions are given in a very terse form, which means that not all of the projects are necessarily suitable for beginners. The aesthetic quality of projects is variable: there is a simple and elegant Nativity and elegant angels in the book; there are also some projects that are very kitschy, such as a country-paint-and-wheat scarecrow which I cannot describe because I cringed and turned the page reflexively, and a very prickly looking wreath with wheat sticking out all round the edges and the centre hole neatened with the very mechanical looking preformed braid.… (meer)
