Joan Schroeder Kindig is Associate Professor at James Madison University where she teaches preservice teachers and graduate students classes in reading and both children's and adolescent literature She has served on numerous ALA committees including the Caldecott and Newbery committees and is toon meer currently serving on Teachers' Choice for IRA Joan is on the editorial board of Capitol Choices, a book selection committee that creates a list of noteworthy books for children from preschool through high school In addition, she compiles an annual "best of the year" list designed fur teachers and parents, Best Bets for the Classroom, which is available on the Virginia State Reading Association, Follett, and Mackin websites. She is coauthor of the Reading Advantage series, a supplemental reading series for struggling, older readers. toon minder

Kindig offers middle-level teachers two gifts: 1) a quick argument and reminder about the kinds of reading and reading instruction that make a difference for the readers in our classes, especially if we care about encouraging reading beyond checklists on homework notebooks; 2) essays from popular authors, illustrators, and editors about their own writing and reading processes. I can't wait to share this resources with veteran and beginning teachers alike, and I look forward to returning to it again myself.… (meer)
