Diana Hanbury King was born in London, England on September 2, 1927. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of London and a master's degree from George Washington University. Before emigrating to the United States in 1950, she taught at a boys' boarding school in Southern Rhodesia. toon meer She taught at Sidwell Friends School in Washington and became a naturalized citizen. In 1955, she opened Camp Dunnabeck in western Pennsylvania, offering a six-week program for dyslexic children. In 1969, the camp evolved into the Kildonan School and continues to serve children with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities year-round. King retired from teaching at the age of 85. She wrote several books including Writing Skills and Never Too Late: Teaching Adults to Read. In 2016, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Teachers Hall of Fame.
