This self confessed follower of Sam Walton has re-created in India a super diversified Retail Empire catering to all the segments of society, Urban, Rural, value conscious as well as brand conscious. Here are some excerpts from the book,

"Later in the evening we (Shivanand Mankekar) set out to take a look at this new concept called Big Bazaar. When we entered the ground floor, it took barely three minutes for us to decide that this the retailing model we had to own........ India needed a value retailing model to revolutionize the Indian retail scene. Big Bazaar fitted the bill".

"Mohan Jadhav is one such sugarcane farmer who lives in walwa, another forty kilometres from Sangli...... He also happens to be our biggest customer to date. On a sunny Tuesday morning in March 2006, he drove down to Sangli in his Bajaj Trax pickup van along with his wife, sister-in-law and nephews........ indulged in some frenzied shopping activity. At the cash counter, his bill turned out to be fourteen feet long. The total amount he had shopped for, on a single day at this Big Bazaar outlet, was Rs. 1,37,367.".
