I love a book that breaks from the norm, especially when it's a children's book.

Archie's First Adventure is a darling story of a little mouse that lives in a forest, but the uniqueness of the book comes from its artwork. Each scene/page is a photograph of tiny, hand crafted characters in a finely detailed setting. The attention to even the smallest details is amazing -- books have bindings and pages, a table setting includes a gingham-topped jam jar, and the smallest knit gloves are wrapped as a gift. You could spend hours just looking at the photography.

One of my favorite parts of the book is the back matter that explains how the props were made and how many photographs were taken for a scene. It's quite a fascinating insiders look at a true talent.

Overall, it's a cute story illustrated in a wonderfully unique way. A fantastic achievement!
