I loved this book. The kids were of my generation. I had a flashback of playing "Uncle Wiggly" on rainy Sunday afternoons. I was raised in one of the congregations that founded the Missouri Synod, so my church background fit right into the story. I had only one sister but in many ways we were like Line and Marty. Close, loving yet opposite in so many ways.
I remember adding color to margarine; the family trips; closeness to grandparents. The early teen pregnancy that no one wanted to talk about. The baby shower for a girl who was a "baby" herself.
The black and white culture of the Norse background and older Lutherans in particular. This book was in many ways a stroll down memory lane. our church service this morning used much of the text quoted. All in all it is a 5 star read. I started after church this morning and finished it before supper. Fabulous!… (meer)
