I'll write more about this soon, but for now it should be pointed out that regardless of the tidy scholalry organization and flawlessly soporific sociological prose, this book is widely believed to have been at-least 51% the work of a local man -- uncredited -- from whom Lantz "borrowed" extensively to create this study. To borrow a phrase from Ezra Pound, it would take a bile specialist to understand why Lantz felt obliged to mask the identity of Zeigler, Illinois. It wasn't simply a matter of his informant's identity, as anybody living within one hundred miles of the place -- maybe much farther -- would have recognized it. Now, of-course, with coal mining having been dead for two generations, the Zeigler of decades ago would be almost unrecognizable even if it were called by its right name.½
