Bilkees I. Latif

"Forgotten" by Bilkees Latif is a good book, but not excellent. Her major contribution, and I believe we should give her credit for this, is to revive the stories of many forgotten women in India. Unfortunately, she does not add dates to the events, making it difficult to place them in a historical narrative. Her writing is stiff, almost stilted. I don't understand the relevance of the lady in the last chapter and how she fits with the rest of the book.

Having said this, the book is a valuable addition to the tales of India's admirable but forgotten women.… (meer)
