Riske Lemmens

Riske was born in 1974 into a family of artists. At the age of fifteen she started dreaming of becoming a children’s book illustrator.

She studied Graphical Design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (1992-1996) and wrote and illustrated her first two picture books for her masterproject. It was a dream come true when one of these books ‘A Box of Monsters’ won the award: ‘Prijs van de Stad Hasselt’ and was subsequently published in 1997. In 1998 the other book ‘Little Dragon’ was published.
Since then Riske has been working as a free-lance illustrator in collaboration with various Belgian and Dutch authors. She has written and illustrated several children’s books of her own, most of which have been translated.
She also teaches art classes at the Art Academy of Borsbeek, Antwerp.
