Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the strategies and efficacy of the flipped classroom
method of instruction. General music is often times a class that every student takes and would
benefit from a diverse set of instructional tools. Furthermore, music classes do not frequently
have a large amount of face time throughout the school year. By utilizing online resources and
streamlining instruction, teachers make better use of classroom time with more hands-on
activities, face-to-face opportunities with individuals or small groups, and in-depth participation
from students who can come in with background knowledge prepared before the class even
starts. This study set out to identify the positive effects or advantages flipped learning had on test
scores, specifically in the middle school level.
This study also sought to find any improvements in content delivery for a variety of
students and their individual learning preferences in a qualitative manner via a student survey. A
brief mention of other attempts into other applications of flipped learning is discussed as well.… (meer)
