This is a great book to demonstrate to children to not take what we have for granted. I really like how the author kept the presentation of the book simple. The cover is just black, white, and red, and the inside of the book is simply black and white. Each page has a consistent border and shows detailed pictures of each scene that the text is describing. For example, when the author tells the reader that Bastitine did not have much of a stove, she had more of a hearth. The author could have described what a hearth was through the text, but instead the author used a descriptive picture to demonstrate what it was. I think that this was a great way to demonstrate because young readers still have difficulty reading texts, and pictures really help them to understand. This book pushes young readers to think about the resources they have, and what life could be without them.… (meer)
