Madeleine Livaudais (1945–1978)

"After graduation, she took a train to Philadelphia and started knocking on doors, looking for work. She landed a job writing for Ranger Rick, a children’s nature magazine. She was a prolific writer, often having multiple articles in each issue, some under the pen name Emily Marsden... She traveled extensively to research the stories, including to Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya... Maddy also wrote a children’s science book on skeletons called The Skeleton Book. She met Antonio Livaudais, and they married in Philadelphia. They moved to Denver when he was offered a position in the Denver architectural office of Cabell Childress." She was stabbed to death by an intruder on Dec. 7, 1978.
