Supposedly a book about a woman in touch with the beauty of the world but it's actually about a failed marriage, an unhappy family, loss and madness. Perhaps there was something in it I missed. Beautiful imagery, though.

I wish there was a reason to like the characters, to feel sad for their problems. They are all caught within themselves and unable or unwilling to touch each other.

Lokuge is likely a very good writer. I expect if the writing had intruded on my reading I would have noticed. But she is not a cheery writer; she is a dour, depressing, bleak writer. Here is what I learned from [b:Turtle Nest|728623|Turtle Nest|Chandani Lokuge|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nocover-60x80.jpg|714824]: your family sucks, everyone sucks, no-one will be kind to you, nothing good will ever happen to you, if anything good ever happens to you it will soon turn to sucking, no-one likes you, no-one cares for you, family is a fiction, men are bastards, women have no power, life sucks. Oh, the priest will bring you second hand clothes if he notices your family is really, really, really poor. But remember: no-one loves you.
