WIth my emotions flying in all directions this book had on a rollercoaster ride that I devoured. This twisted tale drug me in from the beginning and didn’t let go even hours after reading as I spent time just sitting and thinking about it. In this dark take of Rumpelstiltskin, the author creates a world where the rich dominate everything and the peasants should be thankful just to be alive and freedom is not a word ever used. Aspen and her family has worked for the Stiltskin’s for generations, she has known nothing else in life but to serve and not heard. She strikes up a weird friendship with her master Mason Stiltskin and they form some sort of bond yet it gets destroyed one horrible evening. Aspen makes deals thinking she will get the freedom she craves but all these deals do is create chaos, ruin lives, and trap her further into this world. She will never truly belong and she is so naive that it was a tad frustrating because she truly thought that she could be someone in this world, making deals, and stepping on those around her for her own sake. I understand she just wanted out yet she was stupid to think the others in The Order (the rich families) would ever consider her part of their world and in order to be something she breaks the heart of the one that truly loved her. Mason’s story was heartbreaking and shows us that just because you have money doesn’t mean it makes your life better. He takes things into his own hands and decides revenge is the only way and he has his eyes set on Aspen and The Order. This story is dark with triggers that will have you so angry one second wanting to jump in and shake Aspen around then the next when she finally found her true self again you loved her. It also had me routing hard for Mason to get to vengeance he truly deserved on those who hurt him. This story will put you through an emotional wringer and that is truly brilliant writing because the range of emotions you feel seems so real and you fall in love with these characters.… (meer)
