Marianne Caldwell is sick of dates with losers and men who let her down. Signing up for the exclusive “1 night stand” dating service seems to be her last ditch attempt at finding true love. Upon arriving at the swanky hotel, she finds herself whisked away to a medieval land where she is being hunted by a creepy bad guy on horse-back. Being rescued by her very own hero sounds like a fantasy straight from the story books; that is if said hero came with a Brooklyn accent and reminded her of the boys from Jersey shore. Slowly, the bad first impression starts to fade as Robert puts himself in harm’s way to protect her from the horrible baddie. Will she be able to cope with the fact that her Prince Charming doesn’t act, or sound, the way she expected?

This was a short book (hence the short review) but I really did enjoy it. It had some laugh out loud moments (there is a part of the book where she refers to Robert as Paulie D..LOL) It also had some completely bizarre moments which I kinda expected from a fantasy novel. As with many erotic novella’s you have to leave your disbelief at the door and enjoy it for what it is, a really good little erotic romantic fantasy. Marianne’s attitude was snarky and quite entertaining. Honestly, I expected to be hacked off with her elitist stance towards him but I could kind of see her point; it was an exclusive service after all. She was expecting a suave hero who would sweep her off her feet and she got a jersey boy attitude and the occasional utterings about bodily functions. He was lovely. Robert may have not been as suave as she expected, but he certainly was a sweet hero. He didn’t hesitate to protect or coddle her; she really had found a winner with him  For a short story it still had sex, lots and lots of steamy, kinky sex that was rather fun!

A short read that made up for its lack of length with some comedy and smut. With the moral of the story being never to judge a book by its cover, it was a sweet little fairytale that ticked all the right boxes.

One Night in Brooklyn by Casea Major is chik-lit fiction at its finest with elements of fantasy and time travel. By the close of the story, readers have their fill of surprises and satisfying outcomes, and they’ll likely want to go in again for another thrilling ride. It’s a story with a long shelf life.

The novel has a Fantasy Island meets Cinderella quality as, much like in the TV series Fantasy Island, people sign up with Madame Eve at 1Night Stand to live out their fantasy. A concierge, like the series’s Mr. Roarke, greets guests and provides them with a skeletal guideline. The concierge even has an assistant like Fantasy Island’s Tattoo named Javier. Marianne Caldwell from Dallas decides she’d like to give the Las Vegas resort at Castille Hotel a go as she has yet to meet her real life Prince Charming and this could be her one chance even if it’s only for a one night stand.

Everything seems normal when she arrives at the hotel and her concierge Victoria takes her up to her room and explains the ground rules of the fantasy. Marianne is to change into one of the medieval costumes supplied in the room, and then come downstairs where she’ll meet her blind date Robert. Victoria warns her that once the adventure begins, it will run its course and stop tomorrow morning when the cock crows three times. She must be back in her room by then. The ominous caveat has reflections of Cinderella when her carriage will return to a pumpkin at midnight and the fantasy ends.

Victoria vanishes and the fantasy begins, but unlike the paradise landscapes of Fantasy Island, Marianne’s environment resembles a medieval forest when she meanders outside of Castille and into another world from a distant time. The first person she sees is a man with all the right physical traits, chiseled brawn, ruggedly handsome, and smoothly groomed that is until he speaks and his mannerisms remind her of the crass characters on the TV show Jersey Shore with a propensity for phrases like “Yo,” “Zip it,” and “Get up here.” A real dreamboat by any girl’s standards, only Robert isn’t from the Jersey shore but from Brooklyn as in New York City.

Robert and Marianne soon learn that the Sheriff and his men are after them. Robert finds himself in the position of fighting them off while Marianne must depend on him to help her escape, which they do and make it back to the Castille.

Major’s telling of the dramatic action raises the reader’s adrenaline level, and the natural ease in which her characters open up to each other form a tendre rippling with warmth and sensuality. New surprises emerge once Marianne and Robert are returned to real time and they try to locate one another to resume where they left off. How and when they find each other is another does of magic Casea Major administers with the prose of a genuine romantic.
