S. A. Mansbach

Mansbach’s (National Gallery of Art) book traces the development of modern art, Cubism, Expressionism, and Constructivism, and other art styles in Eastern Europe. It is lavishly illustrated including black-and-white photographs and a smaller number of high-quality colour plates. Mansbach’s writing is informative and comprehensive but ends at 1939 leaving an opening for a book on Eastern European art post-1939. This is a wonderful contribution to the history of art in the area, as well as being an exploration of a section of modern art that, up until now, has been inaccessible to many in the Western world.
