- John Moody McCaleb offered the majority of his life to missionary work in Japan. In 1888, McCaleb entered the College of the Bible at Lexington, Ky., and studied under J.W. McGarvey. In March 1892, he left America for Japan where he remained, except for brief furloughs, until 1941. In 1942, McCaleb settled in Los Angeles and spent several years teaching Oriental religions at Pepperdine. For many years, McCaleb wrote a missionary column in the Gospel Advocate that promoted mission work in Japan and throughout the world.
