Loved it. McLeod intermixes his rich insight into African history with the physical artifact findings discussed in this book. Some of the location denominations described here are now antiquated, as the countries have changed their respective names in recent years (such as Zaire), but it's still a worthwhile read.

I particularly enjoyed the reference to an "African" Atlantis, a bunk theory emanating from a man named Leo Frobenius. This was after seeing some of the Ife artifacts, noted for their supreme beauty and naturalistic renditions. I'm going to have to read up on this man, he seemed like quite the character.
