Maria Luisa Meneghetti

Maria Luisa Meneghetti was born in Venice, Italy, and earned a doctorate in literature from the University of Pavia, with a thesis on Romance philology. She taught at the universities of Pavia, Padua, and Siena before becoming a professor of Romance philology at the University of Milan. She has also been a visiting professor at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela in Spain; Université de Poitiers-IV Sorbonne; and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, among others. From 2001 to 2004. she was the coordinator of the European PhD in Romance Philology, created through an agreement between three Italian universities (Milan, Pavia, Siena) and three European universities (Paris IV-Sorbonne, Santiago de Compostela, and Zürich). From 1996 to 1999, she served on the board of the Association Internationale d'Études Occitanes, which promotes research on the literature of the Occitan region. She has published numerous essays, articles, and monographs, often on her particular interest in French and European medieval poets and troubadours. Her books include Storie al muro: Temi e personaggi della letteratura profana nell'arte medievale (2015). She married Cesare Segre, also a philology professor and scholar.
