This was a perfect read during a grumpy week. And I learned that sometimes all you need to be less grumpy is a bath, a good book, and a mug of cocoa.

Seems like this would be a good book for a storytime - lots of opportunity to get into acting mode (because who doesn't want to pretend to be a grumpy penguin?).

Lazybones plays hide-and-seek when his person calls "Walkies!" ...until he meets another dog and discovers that playing hide-and-seek with other dogs in the park is more fun. Now it's the person's turn to hide when Lazybones comes running with the leash for walkies.

Adorable; a worthy follow-up to Grumpy Pants½

I liked the concept because I have had dogs with definite opinions about how short walks should be, but this story was pretty pedestrian overall.

Grumpy Pants is a great children’s book to talk about emotions and feelings with younger children. It brings together a key component of checking in with our inner emotions and regulating who we are. The book joins real world issues with a fantasy creative side of adding in a penguin with human like personalities. This book is great in terms of illustrations (printing) and a chance for students to act out how they would handle their grumpy days and what they would do to try and improve their moods. The artwork really drew me in and kept me captivated in the story as it allows readers to truly embrace the penguin’s day.

Grumpy Pants is a cute story about Penguin being in a bad mood and his attempts, and final success, of cheering himself up. The mentor text for this book is very straightforward, I believe because this book is geared toward a younger audience. There are very clear and concise uses of punctuation, which would make great examples for young readers. There are very good uses of ellipses, periods, commas, quotation marks, and question marks. The book is about how grumpy, frustrated, and upset Penguin is, so I really believe this would be an effective way for students to understand emotion or mood behind the use of certain punctuation.
This story is very easy to read and has a very clear message that sometimes we are in a bad mood and we don't know why. But as our main character Penguin demonstrates, we can calm down and have a good day. This book is probably geared toward a younger audience. However, I do think Grumpy Pants' message of self-regulation, self-control, and self-care are great lessons for all ages. Penguin addresses his mood and does not understand it. Tries different methods until he can calm himself down with a bath and some hot chocolate. The illustrations are cute, fun, simple, and very effective in helping tell the story. Overall, I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to younger audiences.

"Penguin was in a bad mood. A very bad mood. He didn't know why and he didn't care."

Grumpy Penguin stomps home and strips off his grumpy coat, grumpy boots...all the way down to his grumpy underpants. He dives into a nice cold bath, and playing for a while restores him to good cheer.

Simple text and illustrations make this a great choice for storytime or one-on-one with a kid who needs some cheering up! Illustrations are made with linoleum printing.

One of the very first things that interested me the second I read this book is the particular artwork that possesses substance and delicacy in order to maximum what is on each page. The second, thing that interested me throughout the book was the fact that they made sleep look good, there seems to be a comforting presence on the pages of this book. Overall this book is not just interactive with the artwork on each page but, the fact that the theme was made to look amazing.
