Plays about playwrights could seem to be just so much navel-gazing, but when playwrights are interesting enough to tell their story, it becomes worthwhile. Strindberg is one such character. The author is a long-time Strindberg scholar, and he used his research to write this play about the paranoid relationships of the Swedish author. Strindberg fell in love frequently, but his jealous paranoia prevented any relationship from lasting too long. Friendships were also difficult for him. This play is told as a flashback, starting from an unknown point that appears to be after the playwright's death, where he is surrounded by the three women he married then divorced, and moves back to his childhood. The scenes are short, moving from event to event with such rapidity that it becomes almost chaotic. A decent work that deserves to be performed occasionally.
