Enjoyed listening to this book on Audible. I have often been disappointed when the author reads their work. This time, though, I was happily surprised. The author does a great job with the narration. I really enjoyed listening to her.
The book is an introduction to Chris Echo and the mystery suspense series about cases she works. It took a little over an hour to listen to. It is a short read and because of that I don’t want to go much into it. Chris is a complex character, a flawed one. The introduction has a lot of drama packed into it. This is not a cozy mystery series. If you are looking for something more edge of the seat, give this a try.… (meer)

Normally cozy mysteries aren't my first choice, but after reading the description I just *had* to check out this book. I'm so glad I did! I grew up in a small country town and Meyers captures the feel perfectly. If you love mysteries, you'll love this story of small-town intrigue and murder with a fiery veterinarian leading the charge to find justice. You'll fall in love with Ember and the town of Sanctuary as you try to solve this chilling mystery.

I love a new series. This one has everything I look for in a small town or cozy series.
Ember is a strong female lead, with support from her Aunt Becky, also a feisty, strong woman.
The action starts from the very beginning, before Ember is even able to construct her new desk!
Although she is from Sanctuary, having left home for college and staying away a while, many now consider her to be an outsider. I can relate. Everything she does is harshly judged.
She buys a veterinary practice, believing an established client list is to her benefit.
What she doesn't realize is that she inherits something else from the former vet.

I love the animals and the characters and all the trouble that finds Ember along the way.
I am hoping it won't be long before the next adventure comes along.… (meer)
