3961. Ruth Hanna McCormick: A Life in Politics 1880-1944, by Kristie Miller (read 6 Dec 2004) Because I so enjoyed the life of Colonel McCormick by Richard Norton Smith which I read 16 Mar 2004, I wanted to read the biography of his sister-in-law, the daughter of Mark Hanna, who married Medill McCormick (who served one term in the US Senate from 1919 to 1925, lost his bid for renomination and then killed himself), was elected to Congress in 1928, ran for the Senate in 1930 and lost to J. Hamilton Lewis (who had lost to her husband in 1918), and continued politically active but thankfully always unsuccessful till she died in 1944. Not an analytic book, and somewhat amateurishly written by the subject's granddaughter, but fun to read for all the political history it tells of.
