Interesting romantic suspense Kindle Freebie. Common format with a secret group of agents working for the government, Branch, our heroine works for them and she was totally butt kicking. Hero is a childhood love who seems to have turned evil working for his father, the same father that killed heroine's parents.
Action, undercover, and fast paced. I thought towards the end one too many bedroom scenes interrupting the good action that was going on but these two probably deserved that time :)
Some editing mistakes but this looks to be self-published and, again, I downloaded as a Kindle Freebie, so I can look a little past since they weren't completely glaring and/or ruined the flow of story. I'll definitely be checking out the next in series.

WhiskeyintheJar | 2 andere besprekingen | Jan 24, 2021 | I don't think I've read this author before but I will definitely be adding her books to my TBR pile! This book took me a minute to get into it but then WOW! There was corporate intrigue, personal intrigue, family issues, romance, stalking, murder, you name it! There were also some laughs and some tender moments too. It was a very good read that will leave you wanting to know more about all of these people because they are so exciting.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

KathyC200 | 2 andere besprekingen | Mar 22, 2020 | Who scares you the most, a complete stranger or a person you know that has you in their sight?
Megan Mitcham’s latest novel, WHO, delivers an intensely evocative story in this first book of her new Stalker series. With intelligently crafted words and an intriguing plot that has plenty of suspenseful twists, this novel made me want to keep on turning the pages. At first, I found the book a little slow and I was worried that the story wouldn’t live up to its promise, however, the pace soon picked up and I knew I was reading a book that I would come to really enjoy.
Billionaire Larkin Ashford is the fiercely independent owner of her fashion empire which was founded on the back of wedlock. When her company has the opportunity to go public, her Board of Directors won’t give her the green light, unless she agrees to marry. A series of threatening messages aren’t making her decision any easier. As she retreats to her rooftop hideaway to clear her head, she finds herself imprisoned in the strong arms of a mysterious chap who thinks she was about to jump…
Despite her friends’ warnings that her knight in shining armour could be her stalker, she can’t get him out of her head. Determined to find the truth, she searches for her mystery man and discovers a dark secret that could destroy everything that she holds dear. With her empire in danger, she’ll have to uncover the truth before her fortune and her life are reduced to tatters.
I loved the character of Larkin who is efficient, imaginative and extremely shrewd. She has deep-rooted issues with trust from her past and she doesn’t believe in love or long-term relationships. Her mother died when she was thirteen, and she has a tense relationship with her emotionally distant father. She does have a few really close friends that are supportive and loyal. I loved that Megan Mitcham introduced us to an abundance of wonderful characters, especially Larkin’s girlfriends, Genevieve, Marlis and Libby. Their exuberance collectively provides many moments of fun, support and girlie laughter.
Larkin’s high profile life is very much lived in the limelight and with major personal and business decisions needing to be made, who is causing so much trouble for her and what will be the price she has to pay?
I had so many different scenarios playing out in my head, and even though I anticipated some of the twists, I couldn’t settle on the outcome and I was kept guessing until the end. The author definitely did not disappoint with the conclusion of this book!
If you love dramatic plots, intrigue and enjoy crime novels with a bit of romance, then Megan Mitcham delivers with abundance in WHO.
Thank you to Hidden Gems and the author, Megan Mitcham for a free ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary, honest review.

Manic-Midge | 2 andere besprekingen | Feb 9, 2019 | Oh My God! If you want a hot read, look no further! This one will have you sizzling where you sit. Most of these authors, I had read something of theirs in the past. Erzabet Bishop, Emma Jay, and Elle James are frequent go to authors, the others were new. Yep, I have more new faves now. You will get sucked in with the first story and it does not let up. All you can do is white knuckle that Kindle and hang on for the ride. If this anthology doesn’t get your blood pumping in all the right places, check to make sure you still have a pulse.

medicwife | 1 andere bespreking | Feb 9, 2019 | Having a serial killer as your parent would no doubt warp you in one way or another no matter how strong you might be. Ava Shepherd, Ruby Hardy at birth, was loved by her father. He loved her and her mother never ever planning to hurt them. That said, James Red Hardy was a notorious serial killer who had to spill blood to breathe freely, and he did a lot of blood spilling!
Ava grew up but fought every step of the way to overcome her origins. She chose hiding from the legacy of her father by fighting fiends and locking them in prison. She gave up the love of her life, Kenneth “Keen” Hunter, and tore his heart out of his chest. They have avoided one another for a decade – romantic embers are banked but not dead.
The story – well – a copycat appears on the scene setting Ava up as the murderer. There are several murders, intense moments, twists and turns, family gatherings, friendships shared, some romance, injuries sustained and a rather surprising exposure or two toward the end of the book.
This is a standalone book although I wouldn’t mind reading the first book in the series. I thought that perhaps Beaumont and Ava would be next to have their stories told in the series but it seems Ford is up next. Who is Ford? Ava’s sibling.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the copy of this book to read for an honest review. I plan to read more of Ms Mitcham’s work whenever I find it!½

CathyGeha | Apr 16, 2016 | This box was worth it for the Elle James, Nina Bruhns, Roxanne St Clair and Carolyn Crane entries. The rest are not worth the trouble (or in the case of Kincade/Hargin are missing from the box).

Marcella1717 | Jan 22, 2016 | "When friends become enemies and enemies become lovers.
Born in the blood of Sierra Leone's Civil War, enslaved, then sold to the US as an orphan, Base Branch operative Sloan Harris is emotionally dead and driven by vengeance. With no soul to give, her body becomes the bargaining chip to infiltrate a warlord's inner circle. The man called The Devil killed her family and helped destroy a region.
As son of the warlord, Baine Kendrick will happily use Sloan's body if it expedites his father's demise. Yet, he is wholly unprepared for the possessive and protective emotions she provokes. Maybe it’s the flashes of memory … two forgotten children drawing in the dirt beneath the boabab tree… But he fears there is more at stake than his life." (quote from book description)
Based in a region of the world not usually found in Romantic Suspense, it taps into the misery spawned by the power hungry. Tough lives turned into meaningful work. Even when the right thing is as ugly as the wrong.

treehousereader | 2 andere besprekingen | Aug 25, 2015 | The premise of the book is great, but the execution of the story didn't work for me. The writing style wasn't my cup of tea, as I found much of it to be too heavy-handed. Several scenes were laid out with too much detail, too much deliberateness, which I found to be both distracting and tedious. For example: one of the earlier scenes of Sloane eating breakfast -- it was so over-written, I almost stopped reading right then.
My other major gripe is the balance of backstory with present action. In general, I prefer less backstory rather than more, but this book provided hardly any at all. Which is unfortunate because there could have been some really great material there, given the characters' histories. Too much is left awkwardly up the air or coming out from seemingly no where.
To summarize, I like what this book could have been, but not enough to commit to reading the rest of the series.½
